As always,  it is a waiting game.  Our Lawyers and BOP representatives are in the process of negotiating a settlement.  Now whether or not an agreement will be made is unknown.  There are best and worst case scenarios.  Thats really all we have.  Everything is done.  Now it is just a waiting game to see if a settlement can be reached.  If you have an opinion, or would like to be heard, concerning this issue, I encourage you to attend the local meeting and bring it up.  Right now,  all decisions are being made by majority vote at the meetings.

Staff evaluations

We were recently made aware of several eval concerns.  Staff are recieving lower ratings for work performed  in which they recieved higher ratings in the past, and for no apparent good reason.  If you have a concern about your eval,  contact this local.

New Staff

With the FCI comes a lot of new staff members.  This local is asking all seasoned staff to please "train" these staff members the "Right" way of doing things and not the shortcuts- yeah, like we have shortcuts.  Remember that there is no such thing as disciplinary action against a probationary staff member- it is termination.  So help out your fellow comrades and help them stay safe and keep their jobs.  Of course, we realize that more times than not, you have trainees training trainees.  Bottom line, if you see them doing something that could get them "caught up"  then pull them to the side and explain it to them.  And if you are a probationary staff member and you are unsure about what, or how, to do or whether or not you shoiuld do it,  DONT DO IT!  Ask someone first.  It may seem like a dumb question, but better a dumb question than a dumb mistake that could cost you your job.

Staff conduct and responsibilities

All staff need to be made aware that management is looking at staff for job efficiency.  Remember what your job duties are and what you get paid to do.  Recently,  a comment was made by a new staff member that if they wanted them to do pat searches, they need to pay them more money.  Newsflash people,  you get paid to do pat searches.  Everything that is in your post orders, program statements and policy is what you get paid to do.  We all get paid well to do a job and we need to ensure that it gets done.  Your local is limited to what it can do for you if you get written up  and management has you "dead to rights".  I  apologize for having to "harp" on this matter, but the last thing I want, or anybody on this eboard wants, is to see a staff member made an example of.

Phone Monitoring

If your post requires you to do phone monitoring, you are entitled to a set of headphones.  This can be picked up at the Lt's Office.  You are responsible for your set of headphones and like any other equipment, if it is lost or broken it must be reported.

Address changes

If you have just joined this local, transferred here, or moved,  PLEASE contact D. McElwain so that your address can be updated in the locals database.  Having a current address will ensure that you are properly notified of special meetings,  election/nomination notifications, and any other news of the local and AFGE.  It will also ensure that your membership card gets properly delivered.  I have about 50 membership cards and over 75 bad addresses currently.  This local does not share your address with anyone and it is not used for solicitation.  If your unsure if your email is incorrect, please email me at:   1034treasurer@gmail.com  place address change in the subject line.   Sending me your  new address does NOT change it with the portal to portal attorneys.  Please follow those instructions in the Portal to Portal section of this page.

Need a Union rep?

When you are brought up front for anything disciplinary, did you know your entitled to a rep from your Local?                                                      Also with that,  your steward is to be appointed by the president.  When you meet with your steward, ask him if he/she was appointed by the president.  If not,  the steward needs to either 1) attempt to contact the president.  2) notify SIA/Operations that in accordance with the contract the steward is to be appointed by the local president.  If not, management is in violation of the contract.  The President makes every attempt to appoint a steward, or e-board memeber, that specializes in the area of whatever you are being called up for.

E-Board vacancy

The E-Board has another vacancy.   Fair Practice Coordinator is mainly responsible for EEO complaints.  If you have any experience in this area and/or  are interested, please notify POL/UNION@BOP.GOV
